Profitable Websites: What you must have and why

Creating a profitable business website is an artform and many small businesses turn their websites into art rather than the business tool it should be used for. Using elements such as Flash, automatic audio tracks and flipping catalogues look great but search engines like Google don't like these type of elements because it cannot extract any information out of them and therefore cannot index them.  People too just want to see the information they are looking for.

So, with the above in mind here is a list of what your site needs to make money online:

  • Build a website with a content management system like Joomla so that search engine spiders can read your site.
  • Don't hard code any pages using Flash, JAVA or HTML. Hard coding sites is not cost effect and you can't be sure that the page will be indexed correctly by Google.
  • Ensure people can buy your product with an ecommerce website design. People are on your site because they want to buy your product. Make it easy for them. Don't make them read reams of info on the home page.
  • Cut to the chase and start selling on the home page. The real estate is too valuable to waste space on large flash animations when people just want the information.
  • Ensure your website is search engine optimised. It can help having a domain name that relates to your product. If you sell Joomla Content Management System websites ensure that every page you write on your site talks about Joomla CMS websites. Ensure you also include the meta tag keywords and descriptions too. A Joomla CMS website easily lets you write optimised pages for your site without having to know any coding knoweldge at all.
  • Incorporate links to social media websites like Facebook and Twitter. Also register your business with business directories and ask other related industries to link to your site too. The more links you have coming back to your site the more your site will move up the Google search engine ranking. One important aspect of linking some businesses miss is the importance of interlinking your own articles within your site. If your article talks about t-shirts and then mentions shorts within the article. Ensure descriptive words are a link to your relevant articles. Go through your whole site and interlink it. It helps people get to the information they are looking for.
  • Write articles on related forums to your business. Ensure you add a link to your website as part of your signature.
  • Once you have all of the above in place make as many exciting changes as you like. There are many cost effective experts around (like Pixelfire) that can customize content management systems such as Joomla.
