There are many ways to promote your website online and Google have some of the best tools available and they are all free except for google AdWords.
When you create a Google account you will have access to these tools and they can all help.
YouTube
Create a presentation and post it on Youtube with a link back to your website. You can easily embed the video code onto your website. This is great for two reasons: A video presentation can really liven up your site and people love to watch other people talking rather than having to read. Infact, people quickly skim through web page copy whereas people will watch a presentation.
The second reason to use YouTube is that the videos use YouTubes bandwidth and not yours. Useful to know if you have limited bandwidth with your hosting.
Google Places
Google Places is where you are allowed to list your business. You can add details such as opening hours and a map. Infact Google has recently started to display Google places listing more prominently than paid for adverts such as AdWords.
Google Places listing are displayed when you perform a search on Google. The Google Places listing always shows the local business results with a map. you can also include a website link too so it's well worth having. When you create a Google Places listing google asks you to verify your site so that they know you own it. This involves adding a little code to your site so it can be verified.
Webmaster Tools
Using Webmaster Tools you can view the search queries people are using to find your website, see the keywords that have the most significance on your site, and also see which other website are linking to yours.
Other useful tools included in the Webmaster set are Sitemaps, Sitelinks
and Site performance plus many others.
Google Analytics
If you're serious about Search Engine Optimisation, you'll want to use Google Analytics. Once you have generated the code to be used on your site you will be able to see how many visits you've had, check the average time spent on your site and monitor traffic sources. Infact Google Analytics is a fantastic resource far too complex to explain here but I really recommend spending the time to go through all it has to offer. You'll be amazed.
AdWords and Keyword Tool
AdWords are the adverts that listed on the right hand side of a Google search return. These adverts are paid for. When you create an AdWord advert you set a daily budget on how much you are willing to spend and based on that amount a bid is put forward for your advert to be placed when someone performs a Google search. You can spend as much or as little as you want
Googles Keyword Tool is great for determining which keywords are the most popular. You can still use this tool without an AdWords campaign. Say you search the keyword phrase 'florists', the keyword tools can tell you how many people search that term locally every month and also suggest other keywords that you might like to use instead.
To create your own Google account simply visit www.google.com and click 'Sign In' in the top right corner use this direct Google link. The next page will give you an option to create an account. If I were you I'd do it today and start taking advantage of the powerful Google tools at your finger tips.
