Is your WordPress website design using the Divi Theme and Divi Builder? Perhaps you have recently upgraded your theme, plugins or WordPress operating system and now noticed that the Divi Builder is giving a ‘timeout’ warning.

If your website is showing the ‘Divi Builder timeout’ warning you should apply the following points to help fix the issue.

First backup your website just incase.

WEBSITE PHP SETTINGS

First you need to ensure your website’s PHP settings are correct.

To update your PHP settings login into your CPANEL.
Click PHP Selector.

The PHP settings need to be:
Enable PHP 7.0 as the default.

Edit the php settings. You may need to create a custom php.ini file if using Hostgator.
Edit the php.ini file and use the following settings:

  • post_max_size 128M
  • max_execution_time 180
  • upload_max_filesize 256M
  • max_input_time 600
  • max_input_vars 5000 - Note: I wasn’t able to apply this setting against the Hostgator web host account. If I tried applying the setting in the htaccess file it would break the site due to Hosgator's restrictions.

PLUGIN RESET

Now disable ALL plugins. I know you’ll say ‘but my site won’t work!’ and you’d be correct but your website it will only be down for a short time while we get this sorted.

  • Disable all plugins.
  • Then start by re-enabling plugins one at a time.
  • Test the Divi Builder works on a page - all good? Then continue the process.

As an example I first enabled Divi Builder.
I then enabled related plugins such as Divi Booster, DP Portfolio Posts Pro.
Test page builder - all good√

I then enabled WooCommerce.
I then enabled related plugins such as WooCommerce Services, WooCommerce Product Image Gellery Options, etc..
Test page builder - all good√

And I followed the same principle listed above until I had enabled all essential plugins on my website.

Plugins NOT required for the everyday function of the website (such as WP Maintenance) were left disabled or removed completely.

Going through process helped fix the Divi Builder Timeout issue on my website http://www.thenest.net.au

I hope it helps you fix your Divi Builder Timeout problem too.

Note: I take no responsibility for your website what so ever! Don't come to me crying because I won't do anything for you. Before applying the process, backup your website and make a note of the current PHP settings in case you need to revert back to them. Good luck!
